THE Women Arise movement spearheading the National Haus Krai on May 14-15 is unfazed by opposition to the concept, a spokesman says.

Rev Stephen Michael Leach said a claim by Liklik Infomol Bisnis Meri Asosiesen president Mary Pohei that the haus krai painted a negative picture of women was wrong.

He said it was just a small minority who disagreed with the use of the term “National Haus Krai”.

“We, over 40 NGOs and women’s groups led by Women Arise, felt that the title Haus Krai was a perfect way to demonstrate our collective grief considering the past four months of unceasing bloodshed, rapes, and brutal public violence within the nation,” Leach said.

“Some have said in the newspaper and social media that it conveys a ‘negative’ message with ‘no hope for the future’.

“Harim (hear), there will be a positive outcome, however, that will only be achieved once the negative aspects of our culture have been acknowledged.

“So, we must publicly mourn and acknowledge the suffering of our women, and then we can discuss peace and embrace all things positive.

“We must humble ourselves before we can be exalted.

“We must mourn before we can rejoice.

“To everything there is season, and this is a season of sorrow and shame but joy shall come in the morning.”
