Hawkins explains delay in police officers’ passes

SECURITY is of paramount importance this week during the Apec summits and only people nominated can receive accreditation, says Apec Coordination Authority chief executive officer Christopher Hawkins.
Hawkins was responding to questions about accreditation issues faced by police officers.
Hawkins said the delay in police accreditation was because of the large number of officers arriving at the accreditation station to be accredited.
“The problem was alerted to the Apec Accreditation Office by Commissioner’s Gari Baki’s office late last night,” he said.
“Staff worked around the clock to accredit the names on the approved list from Commissioner Baki,” he said.
“A number had to be reaccredited to ensure that only those appointed by the commissioner as commander of the Joint Security Task Force were accredited.”
Meanwhile, accreditation for the Apec Business Advisory Council (ABAC) summit was delayed with delegates and media personnel waiting in the queue for hours yesterday.
Hawkins said the delay with the police accreditation had affected the others including ABAC and it was now being cleared.
