Hawks back to winning ways

HAWKS came back into the winner’s circle, defeating Butterflies 18-10 during the round seven clash of the Port Moresby Rugby League at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Saturday.
The Lalokau FM-sponsored team had not lost a game in the past five rounds despite a draw with the Brothers last weekend, and returned with a vengeance to maintain their top position on the points ladder.
Hawks led with two points against Butterflies when halfback Maxwel Doriga converted a penalty successfully in the first three minutes of the first half.
However, the Butterflies scored a try near the post through centre Rex Tandowa that was successfully converted by fullback Garry Dickson to take a 6-2 lead against Hawks before Michael Oaniu came off the bench to score a converted try for the Hawks. Winger Patrick Daure added another and Doriga snared the extras to help the Hawks to a 14-6 lead into halftime.
The second half saw both teams scoring two unconverted tries each but the Hawks won 18-10.
