Headmaster salutes fire service for school visit
More than 1000 students from grade 3 to 6 at Philip Aravure Primary School in Port Moresby were very attentive during the fire service visit last Friday.
The PNG Fire Service’s community safety officers with support from the Gerehu fire station visited the school to impart messages of fire safety.
School principal Robert Silas said: “Educating students about the dangers of fire is the way forward to help prevent fire incidents in schools, homes and communities.
“Many of the school’s classrooms are old and overcrowded, they can easily catch fire. So the visit by our fire fighting officers is an excellent initiative to educate our children to be more responsible and fire cautious.”
He said students do not get the chance to listen and interact with fire fighters and it was an opportunity for them and the teachers to learn more about the role of the fire service and the different services they provide.
Community safety inspector, Cedric Saina, said it was a privilege to be given the opportunity to visit schools and public places to impart the message of fire safety, its associated dangers and prevention methods.
