CENTRAL’S Kwikila Health Centre is to be upgraded to a provincial hospital, Health Secretary Pascoe Kase says.
He the papers were being prepared for Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Dr Puka Temu and Central Governor Robert Agarobe to sign.
“The technical team has been given two weeks to finalise all the documents for the transfer of all provincial personnel to the provincial health authority (PHA),” Kase said.
“We just did the negotiation with the provincial government of Central, Governor Robert Agarobe was leading his team and the administrator and his delegation. We had a good meeting.”
Kase said Sir Puka had directed that all provincial health authoritites be established by the end of this month.
He said the Health Department was given two weeks to transfer documentation of personnel and assets to PHA.
“We made a decision that Sir Puka will be advised to declare Kwikila Hospital the provincial hospital and build a new hospital at Bautama.
Kase said funding will come from the provincial grants.
He said Kwikila would have a clear, designated budget.
Agarobe said: “We’ve gone ahead and approved Kwikila to be the temporary provincial hospital to qualify for the PHA arrangement, without that we wouldn’t get it.
“While we are doing that, the technical team will do due diligence and that should take us there.”
