THE Health Department has rubbished speculation on social media that the coronavirus has reached Papua New Guinea.
The department’s public health executive manager Dr Esrom Doani told The National that speculation on social media was “fake news”. He said information on any confirmed cases would be made known by the department to the people.
“We are working with (officials at) airports and ports and screening everyone coming into the country,” Doani said.
“So if we have any confirmed case, we will advise through the mainstream media.
“Please do not believe everything you read (on social media),” he said.
“We already have a team in communication with all hospitals and clinics throughout the nation.
“Any information on confirmed cases will be released through my office.
“I am in contact with the mainstream media as well. Any updates will be done through the mainstream media.”
