Health Dept urges people to get vaccinated

THE Health Department is urging Papua New Guineans to not leave their guards down in the fight against the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
It said in a media statement that the people should do everything they could to keep themselves safe from the Covid-19 and its variants.
Papua New Guineans are urged to have themselves vaccinated and adhere to the “Niupela Pasin” (New Normal), such as wearing mask, washing hands, keeping a safe distance of 1.5m and avoiding crowds) for their protection.
According to the latest media release by the National Control Centre, 41 new cases were reported last Thursday, 31 on Friday and 46 on Saturday.
As of Saturday, the total number of reported cases was 36,403 of which 35,749 have recovered, 591 deaths and 63 cases were diagnosed in the last 14 hours.
The total number of cases reported in the first eight days of this year was 213, including a death.
In terms of vaccination, as of last Thursday, 226,580 people have been fully vaccinated which is 12 per cent of the 1.8 million target population which was set for last year.
The people with at least one dose of vaccine was 288,879.
