PROPER awareness needs to be carried out to the rural population on Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination, according to a health officer in Madang.
Kei Maing, who is in-charge of the vaccination rollout programme in Karkar, said effective awareness needed to be carried so the people would be aware how the Covid-19 killed people and what the vaccine could do to help stop the spread of the virus.
Maing told The National that his team was doing well with the vaccination implementation programme in Karkar where many people had been vaccinated.
He said the vaccine supply had been used up and they were awaiting new stock so more people could be vaccinated.
“I see the difference why Karkar is doing well – because of the awareness part that we did before rolling out the vaccination,” he said.
“We did awareness and told the people to make up their mind if they wanted to be vaccinated and most of them came and got the vaccine.”
Maing said they were moving on from the Karkar local level government and Sumgilbar LLG, which was part of Sumkar.
He hoped to see more people get vaccinated.
The team were assisted by Talidig policemen who set up a check-point at the Talidig station to conduct normal temperature checks on passengers travelling along the NCR road and also do awareness on the vaccination programme.
Laurence Gigi, who is in charge of the Covid-19 awareness and vaccination rollout in Sumkar, said they were doing fine and hoped to see more people get vaccinated in the district.
