THE Middle and South Fly health programme infrastructure team has completed installation of water tanks in three Middle Fly villages.

The team had carried out scoping work for water catchment installations in Dec 2014 in four villages -Bosset, Obo, Mipan and Membok.

Programme officer Adam Wilson said there were some challenges during the project.

“The most hardest and critical challenge was the movement of material to the sites,” he said.

He said heavy material such as 40kg builders’ bag of mix and cement, steel posts and 20mm thick compressed cement boards weighing more than 80kg were loaded onto a dinghy and transported to the waterfront of the respective sites then carried to the health facilities.

Wilson said water was supplied to the new TB testing lab and a temporary connection had been made to the existing health centre facility.

He said two 9000-litre tanks were transported from Aiambak River port to Obo by dinghy.

“The tank is now functional and will supply rainwater for the health staff,” Wilson said.

He said the second tank will be connected into the main health centre building. “This will supply water straight into the three sinks and one hand basin, which will include water reticulation from a small gravity tank feed through this tank,” Wilson said.

He said a 3000-litre Tuffa tank was provided to Mipan aid post which was taken to the site through the help of the community.

He said the programme was running smoothly.
