Health staff urged to attend to patients

HEALTH workers in Morobe are urged to attend to patients during the Christmas and New Year period because public health is a priority, an official says.
Morobe’s programme adviser for health Micah Yawing, pictured, told The National yesterday that patients must be looked after during the festive season.
“Health facilities should not be closed, and staff must be attending to the sick,” he said.
“We are nearing the festive season and public holidays but that does not mean that all health officials will go on holiday.
“Some must remain on duty during this period to look after patients.
“I call on health workers to continue to serve our people, and must be on standby.”
Yawing said some health workers had been overworked during the polio emergency campaign.
“They have done a great job in containing the disease, because Morobe is a big province,” he said.
“Surveillance and monitoring is still ongoing.”
Yawing thanked health workers and volunteers for their efforts during the vaccination campaign.
“I would also like to thank Unicef, the World Health Organization, churches, non-governmental organisations and other international partners for their support during the campaign.”
