THE National Department of Health (NDoH), NCD Health Services and City Pharmacy will conducting public screening leading up to World Breast Cancer Day on Oct 25.

The first screening was done last Friday at Boroko City Pharmacy; the next one will be done this Friday at Rainbow Stop and Shop (City Pharmacy) and the main one will be done on Oct 25 at Central Waigani Stop and Shop

NDOH cancer control and prevention programme technical officer Ellie Winge said yesterday that the first mass screening went extremely well, with about 150 women turning up for checks.

Winge said of the 150 who were checked, 15 were found to have abnormalities and were checked by doctors on site.

“After the doctors’ check, they were referred to Port Moresby General Hospital for further examination.

“We are fighting breast cancer in the activity we are carrying out, we want to help our women and mothers detect small lumps so that we can prevent breast cancer from developing.

“This is a war against breast cancer so we want to use any information available,” she said.
