VILLAGE health volunteers in Jiwaka will now be the first point of contact for people seeking medical treatment where there is no health facility nearby, an official says.
Coordinator for Save the Children programme in Jiwaka, Ken Tal, said this during the graduation of 53 village health volunteers in Jiwaka recently.
Under the Public-Private Partnership programme, Jiwaka Health Authority (JPHA) and Save the Children funded the training of 53 village health volunteers from Jimi, South Waghi and North Waghi districts.
The programme is to create a link between JPHA and the community to improve access to primary healthcare.
“We are looking to more programmes to partner with JPHA to strengthen the health system in Jiwaka” Tal said.
Anglimp-South Waghi health manager Kuk Gola acknowledged the facilitators and trainers for the programme.
