Health workers can help other countries

Letters

RECENT news from around the world indicate that several countries are being overwhelmed by the coronavirus outbreak in several strains and with multiple waves.
We, the health workers in PNG feel for our colleagues in the United States, Britain and Brazil in particular and we would like to share with them the burden each health worker is going through.
We hope that the Government, through the Health Department, can work closely with partner countries and our different unions can liaise with sister unions in these countries to have teams of PNG health workers to assist our counterparts in their time of need.
We congratulate our health workers who did similar work in Samoa during the recent poliomyelitis outbreak and we would like to represent PNG by extending our helping hands to countries in need.
PNG, being a commonwealth country and having signed international treaties at the United Nations level, has not been badly affected by the Covid-19.
Health workers in PNG have been well-trained and prepared for the disease but our skills are not being utilised.
The Government can arrange for humanitarian aid and send health workers to other countries devastated by disease, famine and pestilence.
PNG can certainly help the world in this manner.
