Health workers urged to continue immunisation
The National, Tuesday 17th April 2012
DEPUTY Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala has encouraged all health workers to continue immunising people in the country.
Dakulala led a medical team with representatives from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) into Dirigoro village in the foothills of Rigo, Central.
He said he appreciated the logistic challenges faced by the health workers but encouraged them to do their best.
Dakulala and his team were carrying out part of the supplementary immunisation activity programme in the area.
The team walked for 10 hours before reaching the designated village where the immunisation was to be conducted.
He said he had joined community health workers around the country to remote places such as Dirigoro to share the people’s experience and the hardship they faced.
Dakulala said immunising everyone in the country was challenging because of the problems of logistics, terrain and isolated islands.
He said medical officers around the country had this month to immunise everyone.
He said the vaccines needed to be taken on time so they did not go bad in the heat.
He reminded the health workers that they were not working alone.
He walked for hours along the mountain fringes into Dirigoro village as part of the national health department’s commitment in sharing the hardships with the people.
Dakulala and his team travelled last Thursday to Dirigoro and returned on Sunday afternoon.
