Hear men’s voices too

Letters

IN all societal settings, both genders play equally pivotal roles, irrespective of family backgrounds, qualifications and race.
Therefore, laws on domestic violence should be equal to both genders.
Papua New Guinea is relying heavily on borrowed laws and female perpetrators are not punished equally as men perpetrators.
Violence against men is silently but surely affecting our boys and man but the law and how cases of males being victimised seem to be one-sided.
Women and girls seem to be having an easy time while men are being punished severely.
The media platforms have portrayed men as perpetrators while a woman who commits indictable offences against her partner is protected by law.
Men are being mistreated, assaulted are dying silently but you hardly see advocates speaking up against that.
In 2014, I have witnessed a man dying after being unfairly treated by his partner.
When the deceased went overseas for two months, his wife had an affair with another man.
He returned home only to find out that his partner was with a known man the previous day.
He got on his car and sped towards Morata 2.
The police chased him thinking that he was a car thief or a suspected criminal.
The police fired several bullets at him and caused him to bump into a rain tree.
He died instantly.
This is just one of many cases that are not published.
Similar incidents are not widely publicised.
Only one-sided stories are published to defame men.
The media is painting a picture that men are sick animals while women are just weak and vulnerable.
The law and the media is somewhat forcing men to tolerate and accept unfair treatment from women.
For the sake of equality and balance, reporters should understand causes of violence rather than just helping to paint a bad picture of men.
Men’s voices need to be heard too.
And again, this country is relying on foreign laws which are not relevant to us.
Women should not be underestimated, they can fight, kill and even rape men too.

  • Very true indeed, but the focus here is physical assault that men enforce to women. There is a way out if you are victim. Report and solve it instead of taking it to your own hands.
