CLIVE Pole can now live a happy life with his family following a successful open heart surgery to clear his blocked arteries at the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby.

Pole, 37, from Pangia district, in Southern Highlands, is a standard and licensing officer with PNG Ports in Port Moresby. The company assisted him in having the surgery.

The heart specialist team at the hospital led by Dr Om P Sharma, the medical director and chief cardiothoracic, and Dr Vandana Sharma, the vascular surgeon, performed the surgery for K60,000.

Pole said it should have cost him more in airfares and accommodation if he had it overseas.

He is grateful that such medical service can be done locally.

Dr Sharma said it was a by-pass operation which was performed while the heart was beating.

Sharma said Pole had a heart attack in June and was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital.

He was stabilised there and referred to PIH for further medical examination.

After undergoing the angiogram diagnostic test, it was decided that he needed a bypass operation, which was done on Sept 10.
