A MAN who underwent the first bypass cardiac surgery at the Pacific International Hospital says he has fully recovered.

Nathan Milyo, 49, from Wabag, Enga, said he decided to have the bypass surgery after he heard the hospital had the facilities.

“I have the money to travel out of the country to get treatment and I can afford it here where it is cheaper. I am grateful I stayed back in the country,” he said.

But he said not everyone could afford the K60,000 for the surgery.

Milyo did not know he had heart disease until he went for a check-up.

“This heart problem will not tell you it’s there until you are checked and the doctors confirm if you have a problem with your heart,” he said.

“I thought I was okay until I went for the heart check and the doctors told me I had a blockage to my heart.”
