A Catholic health centre in Central received medical kits last Saturday from its local MP.

St Gerard Hospital in Veifa’a, Kairuku-Hiri district, was given medical drugs and equipment by first-time MP Peter Isoaimo.

The hospital is one of the oldest that has served people in the area under the Catholic Health Services.

The supplies included first-aid kits, medical drugs, containers of petrol, clothes for nurses and doctors and other medical equipment and gear.

“We will continue to deliver medical equipment from our local medical suppliers because our people need them most,” Isoaimo said.

He outlined several plans for the district in terms of agriculture where alternative crops would be introduced to the people after their livelihood was greatly affected by the betel nut ban in Port Moresby, the biggest market for their main commodity.

Isoaimo stressed on improving law and order in the district as well as infrastructure developments like road upgrading.

He was present at the 28th graduation of Veifa’a School of Nursing and commended the Catholic Church for faithfully serving the people of Kairuku-Hiri.

“Though my district is the biggest with 75 council wards and 21,000 people, I will try my best to deliver much-needed services my people have been deprived of.

“I am only a custodian of my people’s money and I will use it to deliver their needs,” he said.

He has already donated three ambulances to the Bereina Station Hospital.
