HEKARI United claimed their 10th victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Gulf Komara in round 15 of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The first match of Port Moresby’s Papua New Guinea Football Stadium triple-header saw Hekari dominate possession with the return of forward Patrick Aisa alongside skipper Michael Foster, who found striker Nigel Dabinyaba for the opener 15 minutes in.
Komara centre-back Napolean Jack and goalkeeper David Hauka then held out Hekari to trail 0-1 at halftime.
But moments before the break, Komara defender Kila Numa received his second yellow card for pushing referee David Yereboinen, leaving Gulf with 10 men.
Despite being a man down, Komara had several attempts on goal with midfielders Kenneth Arah and Numa Kila coordinating their attack.
But Hekari’s Daniel Joe and Roger Saking frustrated Komara before Wira Wama came off the bench to seal the match with the Reds’ second goal. Hekari manager Vonnie Kapi Natto commended Komara’s resilience.
“We had a lot of chances,” she said.
“Komara were a man down but they made us work hard for our second goal.
I’m happy with the win as it will give us more confidence for our remaining games of the regular season.”
