NATIONAL Soccer League newcomers Lae sounded a warning to other clubs after holding the star-studded Hekari United to a goalless draw in the fifth game of round one in Port Moresby.

The match was the only NSL matched played at PNG Institute of Public Administration Oval at Waigani and it turned out to be a much more even contest then expected.

The Morobeans led by mid-fielers Simon Emmanuel and Kohu Liem kept the Hekari defence guessing deft touches through out.

Emmanuel was the star as he made experienced opponents David Muta and Niel Hans look flat.

Lae defenders Japhet Tiampo, Carlos Peka, Agi Moses and Goroba Tawa stood their ground while goalkeeper Matherson Nasa was outstanding on the last line of defence stopping Hekari’s danger men Tuimasi Manuca and Jean Kaltack from having an impact on the game.

Hekari defenders Taniela Waqa, Koriak Upaiga, Joachim Waroi and Daniel Joe were stretched by Lae’s by Clement Peka and Emmanuel Yawi.

The NSL points ladder: Hekari still 11, Morobe 7, Oro 7, Lae 7, Admiralty 5, Besta 3, Stars 1.
