PAPUA New Guinea striker Marie Kaipu netted eight goals to help Hekari United beat Amoana 19-0 in round six of the Women’s National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Kaipu opened the scoring in the second minute which set the pace for Bertha Yapi, Georgina Kaikas and Marvis Singara to contribute to a 9-0 lead at halftime at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
Central side Amoana were unable to contain Hekari after the break with strikes from Kaipu, Kaikas, Yapi and Singara pair, Marvis and Stephanie, sealing the game.
Hekari head coach Eric Komeng said he was thrilled with his side’s ruthlessness.
“The most important thing is to score goals,” he said.
“If we can score, then that’s positive for us.
“From last week’s match (against Genesis), we had to go back and work on our scoring opportunities which resulted in a convincing scoreline against Amoana.”
Komeng commended Amoana for putting up a strong challenge against Hekari.
“Even though they knew playing against Hekari was going to be a tough game, they came here with a good attitude and I am proud of them,” he said.
The 19-0 win has further cemented Hekari’s place as the Southern Conference’s best attacking side with 48 goals from six matches — an average of eight goals per game.
Scoring at least 21 of those goals, Kaipu still maintains the lead in the golden boot standings in the conference.
“Marie (Kaipu) is a very good striker,” Komeng said.
“She has been working on her shooting lately and scoring goals is not new to her.
“She has scored many goals on the international stage and at club level.
“She did well against Amoana and we’re proud of her.”
Hekari will be preparing for their match against Port Moresby City on Saturday.
