HEKARI finished round three undefeated after they thrashed the Southern Strikers 5-0 at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Both teams displayed some good football in the first half but with Hekari’s experience, the Mineral Resources Development Company-sponsored side fired two goals to hold the upper hand.
The Strikers, made of development players, were unable to hold out the might of Hekari.
Hekari took full advantage of the Strikers mistakes and lack of communication to seal the match with three more goals in the second half.
Hekari coach Jerry Allan described the game as a comfortable win.
“I’m feeling really excited because I wanted to get three wins from as many matches and the display this afternoon shows our commitment,” he said.
He said because of their commitment and discipline at training, Hekari were producing good results on the pitch.
“We’re slowly improving but we’re yet to be a complete side,”Allan said.
“We have more work ahead of us.
“The challenge was there but the Strikers mainly consist of youths and schoolboys, so their was no real intensity in the match.
“The challenge was quite soft.
“Strikers came out good in the first half but loss the magnitude in the second half and we strike three altogether.
“If you convert your chance then you win.
“My players did well and made the most of their chances.
“Luckily, there were no injuries today. Hopefully, we can maintain our form heading into next week.
“I’ll make sure to field a strong team in the next round.”
