Hekari thrash Tavur

HEKARI United maintained their perfect start to the season with a 5-0 shutout of National Soccer League rookies Tavur in round two at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The Eric Komeng-coached side kept the West New Britons at bay as they scored through Nigel Dabinyaba (2), Koriak Upaiga (2) and Michael Foster.
Komeng told The National that they had anticipated a good game against Tavur.
“There’s no secret in winning a game, it’s all about hard work and building a consistently competitive team,” the former midfielder said.
“We knew that they would give us a good game so we worked on our finishing and combinations which paid off.
“Getting our second win was a plus for us and it gave us more confidence. “Now we have to prepare well to play Southern Youth in our next match.”
Meanwhile, in the opening match of Port Moresby’s triple-header, rookies Central Dabaris beat Star Mountain 2-1 to record their first win of the season.
After losing to Gulf Komara in the first round last week, the Dabaris re-grouped during training and produced a strong performance to earn their first three points.
The match of the day between Gulf Komara and Port Moresby Strikers saw the David Aua-coached side beat the city outfit 2-1.
