Hekari, Wantoks claim sevens title

HEKARI and Wantoks were winners of the NCD Public Servants Soccer Association’s sevens soccer tournament held during the Independence weekend, in the male and female divisions respectively.
Held at the PNG Institute of Public Administration, Eric Komeng and Wira Wama piloted Hekari to defeat the Uni tribesman 2-0 to claim K4,000 in cash plus the Cup
Hekari went throughout the tournament undefeated to scoop the major prize with Brian Tuhiana flying in from Madang to star in the team.
“The money ws spent to celebrate Independence day,” Tuhiana said.
Tribesman picked up K2,000 while Spartans defeated YFC Lions to collect K1,000 and the Lions settled for K600.
In the women’s division, four teams played a round-robin match which Wantoks came out victorious walking away with K1,000.
Mungkas bagged K800 for the second spot.
NCD PSSA interim executive official Vonnie Kapi-Natto thanked all the teams for taking part despite the late notice.
She thanked Yamaros, Spartans, Mungkas and YMC from neighbouring Port Moresby Soccer Association (POMSA) for taking part in the tournament.
Patron of NCDPSSA John Kapi Natto urged all the teams to prepare for next years competition which would include a prize money of K25,000.

“We should start preparing now for the 2013 sevens soccer tournament.
“With the support from hopefully, MRDC or other corporate supporters, the prize money would go up,” he said.
