Hekari wary of Genesis

HEKARI United coach Eric Komeng has warned his players to be more clinical in their finishing ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Southern Conference leaders Genesis in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Despite their 9-0 win over Port Moresby Academy in round four of the Women’s National Soccer League on Saturday, second-placed Hekari — who are just two points adrift of Genesis — missed a number of scoring opportunities.
“We need to work on our scoring opportunities,” former Papua New Guinea international Komeng said.
“We need to make all our opportunities count against stronger teams like Genesis.
“We did well to get the win, but we started slow.”
The 36-year-old said they needed to play more as a team and get off to stronger starts.
“It’s all about remaining focused at training and on game day,” the former midfielder said. “We need to be consistent in getting the basics right.
“This includes our finishing.
“We missed a lot of scoring opportunities, so we will be working on it during training this week.”
Meanwhile, Genesis coach Percy Mataio expressed the same concern for his team despite being one of only two sides who are yet to drop points this season.
“Our finishing needs to be better,” he said after their 1-0 win over National Capital District.
“We need to work on our support systems across the pitch.
“Having said that, we will continue to be a defensive team throughout the competition because that is our strength.
“We will continue to build on that going into the match against Hekari.
“They are a great team and we need to step up on game day to give ourselves a strong chance of getting a positive result.”
