Hela clan leaders unite to form company

KEY leaders from 13 clans in Hela united recently to form an investment company to support their people to participate in business and promote cash flow.
The clans – Nele, Itake, Yabu, Keau, Nauwe, Lomia, Irako, Tiya, Homohoni, Tapamu, Angobe, Tuleni and Noma – decided to take a positive stand for their people through Trapia Wapi Investment (TWI).
TWI chairman Paul Urulu said the company would create wealth and promote development in Hela.
Urulu said the clans came from the Angore Petroleum Development Licence (PDL) 8, Hogombe Block 1716 in the Hulia Benerua local level government.
He said they were also the landowners where the PNG LNG project was located but had been missing out on the benefits because they were not organised.
“Looking at all the bad luck over the years, we decided to change the direction and strategy,” he said.
“TWI has set a vision to ensure that whatever benefits sourced will be distributed equally among the members or shareholders.
“Hela is known for tribal fighting and killings because people are not engaged in such life changing activities.”
Urulu said TWI would become an instrument to source funding and extend business activities in the province.
“We believe that this new company will create a new chapter for the people,” he said. “The aim and focus is to benefit from the resources that are taken from our land.
“My deputy, Peter Hapiali, treasurer Ken Talu and secretary Elis Warai are working to move TWI’s vision forward.
“The Government is focusing on boosting small and medium entrepreneurs and this is where TWI is looking at sourcing funding assistance to expand economically.
“We do not want to become paper landowners and spectators like what others in from Hela are doing in Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.”
Urulu urged the Government not to entertain such lazy people or landowners with fat envelopes.
