THE Hela Wigmen outmuscled the Gulf Isapea 28-20 in Round 9 of the Digicel Cup in Mendi on Sunday.
The scores were locked 20-20 with three minutes remaining when Port Moresby-based referee Robin Tolopa penalised the Isapea for obstruction.
Wigmen halfback William Mone slotted a penalty goal to put his side ahead 22-20 before the hosts scored their fifth try to claim victory.
Earlier on, Hela winger Ian Matiabe crossed twice with Wenza Tenza converting one of the tries for a 10-0 lead.
Isapea five-eighth Solomon Pokari kept his side in the contest kicking two penalties, setting up two tries and slotting three conversions.
The visitors had opportunities to build pressure on the Wigmen but poor set completions and option taking held them back.
The Isapea face another tough assignment when they play the Enga Mioks in Wabag this Sunday.
The Wigmen travel to Mt Hagen to play the Eagles.
