Hela eyeing district sports authorities

THE Hela administration is planning to launch the Komo-Margarima Sports Development Authority this month.
Hela sports and recreational coordinator Ken Agobe urged districts to set up similar authorities to help manage sports.
“We want to see our districts manage sports because they are in a better position to understand their own challenges,” Agobe said.
“It’s about decentralising sports development rather than having the provincial arm take care of everything.
“We believe that if we have these authorities set up, we will see infrastructure development in the districts, and proper funding, direction and management.
“It will benefit not only our sports men and women but all the communities in the province.
“We have to prepare for the next PNG Games in Southern Highlands and these steps are crucial in the long run.”
