Hela getting gun detector drone, aims to end violence

THE Hela government has funded the manufacture of a Gun Detector Drone that is currently being designed by IT consultants in China.
Hela Governor Phillip Undialu told The National that Hela continued to be in the headlines for gun-related violence and the provincial government had decided to invest in drone technology as a means to address the problem; the drone has been named WIGMAN 01.
“This drone will have the capacity to detect weapons such as guns, bombs, ammunition, dangerous chemicals and others to a depth of 100m below surface,” Undialu said.
“It will also detect illegal drugs, alcohol and homebrew and can also carry out other development projects like surveying, mapping and gold prospecting.
“The WIGMAN 01 will also have the ability to fly 700km.
“The Hela boundary is less than 200km around so if this technology works, it will also be able to cover other neighbouring provinces.”
Undialu said Hela seemed to be in a constant state of emergency and something needed to bring order and peace to the province.
“Many innocent victims have lost their lives in the hands of criminals who think they are above the law,” Undialu said.
The Governor said the administration could not rely on the national government to solve their problem especially since it was jeopardising one of the country’s largest resource projects (gas).
Undialu warned criminals and those in possession of illegal and unlicensed firearms that the authorities would soon catch up with them.
He called on the government to implement the recommendations from the Singorok Gun Report and enact a total ban on guns.

  • Kudos to Hela Governor Undialu for taking hols of available technology to fight crime in his province. Hope other provinces follow suit!

  • How soon will the Gun Detector Drone be delivered to Hela is another question. While the people are still armed with high powered weapons, what is the Governor’s immediate plan to safe lives of disciplinary forces lives in line of duties protecting country’s important project such as PNG LNG and to maintain civil order.

  • I agree with Iso that three kudos must be given to the Hela Governor for taking on the challenge to quelling the never ending gun related problems affecting the economy of the province and lives of innocent citizens.

  • This technology will not work no drone will have capability to look 100 mteres underground. Another example of waste and corruption using our money
