THE Hela Provincial Health Authority (HPHA) can work and move forward if staff and management accept changes and are willing to change, says the new chief executive officer Dr Gunzee Gawin.
Dr Gawin arrived in Tari yesterday with his family to a rousing welcome from the Hela Provincial Health Authority Board, led by chairman Peter Botten, Hela Provincial Administrator William Bando, Health Secretary and HPHA director Pascoe Kase and health staff.
“If you can be willing to change, then we can change the way we do things here. If you cannot change, we cannot progress,” he said.
Dr Gawin advised staff that he had an open door policy, and was looking forward to meeting members of the team and working together to develop the HPHA.
Botten said the HPPA was extremely pleased to have secured the services of Dr Gawin and the board looked forward to working with him and the staff to improve Hela Provincial Health Authority.
“Dr Gawin is a man of honour, a man of class, and a man of substantial talent and passion,’’ Botten said when welcoming him and his family to Hela.
“He is the ideal person to come and help us turn Hela Provincial Health Authority to the best health service in the country.
Botten said the HPHA was also now recruiting other staff to fill in vacant positions and to bring its staff numbers to a full level 6 hospital.
