THE Hela health authority (PHA) launched its measles-rubella and polio vaccination programme and a donation drive for the poor and disadvantaged of Hela on Tuesday.
PHA chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa said the aim of the launch was to advocate the vaccination of children under five years against measles-rubella and polio.
The launch coincided with a clothes donation drive as it would be easier to distribute the items during the vaccination programme.
“The target for the vaccination programme is 38,000 and we are confident that we can reach that number because of the performance of our staff from the last past polio vaccinations,” Kintwa said.
“Routine immunisation programmes will still continue next year.”
Hela government representative Pais Pape said the administration would continue to support PHA’s work to ensure the health of Hela’s children.
Pape said his government would continue to collaborate with UN International Children’s Emergency Fund, World Health Organisation, Oil Search Foundation and other partners that were complementing efforts in the health sector.
He said also urged parents to take the vaccination programme seriously to safeguard their children.
