THE Hela students at the Divine Word University in Madang officially broke away from the Southern Highlands students association during a farewell party recently.
The Hela students were part of the Southern Highlands students association but since the creation of Hela province the students decided to form their own group.
SHSA president Bernard Nande said the executives and the club members had met and endorsed the Hela move.
This was followed by a farewell party where members feasted on a big pig at Scout Beach on the north coast road.Among some of the important people who came to witness the occasion were the chairman of Ramu landowners association Tobby Bare, chairman of Ramu Block One Dr Alex Peawi Peter Makengi, senior
lecturers, Catholic brothers, seminarians and other Southern Highlanders living and working in Madang.
Mr Nande said under his leadership, he wanted to encourage students at tertiary institution like DWU to behave as professionals and elites of this nation and do things professionally by officially recognising the breakaway of the Hela students. “On behalf of the SHSA, I thank the Hela students for being part of SHP over the years and wish you all the best in running your own association,” he said.
