MURDERERS, rapists, escapees and criminals on the run in Hela have been warned to surrender to police.
Provincial police commander Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari issued the warning following the recent killings and criminal activities in the province.
He urged people to cooperate with police to establish order in the province.
“I need the support and cooperation of the people and criminals on the run to establish order in the province,” he said.
Lakari said the majority of Hela people were law-abiding citizens but there were a few who were creating trouble and engaging in criminal activities.
He said these bad habits must be stopped because they were spoiling the name of the province and the people.
“In order to change, we, the people of Hela need to change our mindsets,” he said.
Lakari said when people started to respect law and order, there would be peace and harmony in the province.
“God has blessed Hela with many natural resources,” he said.
“The people must change to love and respect other people and to maintain peace.”
Lakari said criminals should not continue to live in fear and hide from police for the rest of their lives.
He advised them to go through the rehabilitation process in jail and start a fresh new life after serving their jail terms.
