Heliam aims for win No.2 in Tubusereia competition

Heliam will look to build on last week’s win when it takes to the waters in the Tubusereia Asi Asi Race Association in Central tomorrow.
A asi asi is a miniature canoe raced traditionally over the years by Motuan villagers.
The Gelly Bai-owned winner edged out Daniel Leke’s in-form Crazy Dad for line honours in the 70cm division.
In the one-metre division, Gali Tau’s Ban-T beat Ganigolo and Delepou to claim victory.
Association chairman Nanai Nanadai, pictured, said the sport had lost momentum in recent years.
“But it is now slowly making a comeback,” Nanadai said.
“The second round will take place this weekend and I’m expecting 50-plus racers in each division.
“Points are awarded according to the placings so racers are keen to establish their dominance early on in the season. Each race counts so the competitors need to be consistent if they are to come out on top at the end of the season.”
