Help elderly, disabled people

Letters

JESUS, as he travelled around Judea and Samaria, enabled the disabled, helped the blind see, and helped the crippled walk.
Jesus instructed us to do the same.
The Gospel of Jesus says: “When you give a feast invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; and you will be blessed because they will not be able to pay you back. God will repay you…” (Luke 14:13).
Jesus did not subsidise healthy young people to play rugby or other sports – at about K3000 for hosting each game.
A wheelchair in Goroka has been priced at approximately K2800. Goroka General Hospital has no wheelchairs for patients.
A few elderly, lame and crippled in Eastern Highlands villages can afford wheelchairs.
Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu has given K3000 to each suburb of Goroka to host Christmas games.
We value sports and fitness, and we value competitions bringing people together.
However, that K3000 could have purchased wheelchairs for people living with disabilities, illness and old age.
The governor should continue to encourage sports – for a day’s entertainment.
Can he also encourage young people to look after their lands, and those in need?
Can provincial funds give the crippled wheel chairs and sustainable benefits?
