WHILE the coffee industry in the Southern Highlands has been somewhat forgotten in over the past 10-15 years, Oil Search Ltd is encouraging growers to boost production, a senior business development officer says.

Based on a report, the senior business development officer with Oil Search, Camillus Ponget, said the company was committed to helping landowners in the project area in micro business over the years.

He said Oil Search was committed to help coffee farmers.

“Oil Search had committed a lot of money to develop coffee within the project areas starting from Hela, Southern Highlands and Gulf.

“The company established coffee nurseries in Hides, Pimaga, Moro, Sembirigi and Kikori,” he said.

The company diverted a substantial amount of money to establish the nurseries with the most recent one established in the Poroma LLG in the Nipa-Kutubu district with 60,000 seedlings distributed to farmers for free.

Ponget said Oil Search was focused on  Southern Highlands, Gulf and Hela to help the project-impacted landowners.
