Herbal treatment at hospital must stop

Letters

AS a former patient at the Boram Hospital in Wewak, East Sepik, I realised that some terminally ill patients, advised to leave due to failure in treatment, were still occupying beds as a certain medical officer continued treating them with herbs.
As a result of this, some other patients were told to leave as there wasn’t enough space for new admissions into the wards.
I believe this is a very serious matter because the use of non-conventional drugs undermines the effort in the use of conventional drugs, especially with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
This places skepticism on the already skeptical public as seen in people’s attitude towards the vaccination drive.
If medical staff are seen to be placing emphasis and trust in herbs, how can people believe in the messages and awareness health officers are carrying out about the vaccine?
If the Boram Hospital board turns a blind eye on this very serious matter, than can the Health secretary order an investigation so that this medical officer is dealt with quickly.
From sources within the hospital, this has been going on for a few years.
These hospital sources also scared of blowing the whistle on this very senior medical officer.
