THE Hela Gimbu Association (HGA) has called on the provincial and national governments to fast track the appointment of a permanent administrator for Hela.

HGA chairman Damien Arabagali said yesterday that they supported an earlier call by Tari town mayor Ken Arawi for a permanent appointment to be made as soon as possible.

“William Bando is a man of his own calibre and should not be pushed around like a political yoyo,” he added.

He said three candidates were short-listed and Bando, the former chief executive officer of the Hela Transitional Authority, was their choice for the position.

“I call on the Prime Minister to do away with the plan for the governors to be given powers to appoint public servants,” Arabagali said.

“Public servants should be left free from political interferences.”

Bando also expressed his frustration over the delay in the appointment.

“I feel that I have been patient for too long and I think it’s time to move on and get on with life,” he said.

Bando also said he believed his efforts and achievements during the HTA period were sufficient to secure the position.
