Match commissioner Francis Ank has praised clubs in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Highlands Conference for completing round one uninterrupted.
With the round-two matches set to resume on Saturday after a two-week recess, Ank said the turnout by the players, officials and supporters showed that the sport had a future in the rugby league-dominated region.
Ank said despite only six clubs — Mt Hagen, Blue Kumuls, Enga Laima, Aporro Mai, Simbu Angra, Kagua-Erave — competing in the conference, interest among followers was growing.
“Mendi, Goroka, Jiwaka and Hela have already shown their interest to take part next year,” he said.
