IT was a day of celebration at Hisiu village in the Kairuku-Hiri electorate as people arrived in droves to witness the induction of newly-appointed Minister for Higher Education Research, Science and Technology, Paru Aihi.
The special church ceremonial event was attended by delegates including the deputy prime minister Sam Abal and his wife, Attorney-General Sir Arnold Amet, acting Police Commissioner Tony Wagambie, bishops, pastors, church clergies and council presidents.
Aihi said the event opened a new chapter in his political career acknowledging God for reaching the level he now holds.
He said there had been a lot negative perceptions about the government about their belief in God which he strongly denied.
Aihi said these were God-fearing people and were committed to worshiping God in a godly way, calling on the people of Kairuku-Hiri to also follow suit.
He commended the Kairuku-Hiri people for electing him as their MP three years ago.
He said Abal, Sir Arnold and him had been meeting on a weekly basis to pray and reassured his people that his new appointment would not deter him from him his electorate duties.
Meanwhile, Sir Arnold said their attendance was to honour Aihi and his people as they were Christian brothers.
He said he had no hesitation to say that they were committed Christians, stressing that the most important intent was “serving and fearing God”.
Sir Arnold  told the audience that despite their political leaderships and titles, churches played a critical role because their jobs deal with saving souls.
