THE PNG Hockey Federation will stage a corporate hockey competition starting on Feb 19.
According to president Kaluwin Potuan, the corporate hockey initiative is to promote networking within the hockey fraternity and also to promote the hockey fives format which.
Potuan said corporate hockey would be played on week days from Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 9pm at the Hockey Pavilion at the Sir John Guise Stadium precinct.
“We will have our corporate hockey competition this year and we will be using the hockey fives format,” Potuan said.
“We have eight teams that have already shown interest to take part in the corporate hockey. We have IRC, BPNG, Department of Works, Coca-Cola, PNGOC, PNG Sports Foundation, Pro Valuers and Just Hockey.
“The corporate hockey will run this month until April so I would like to encourage all corporate companies that have shown interest to start preparing for this first time initiative.
PNG Hockey executive member Raymond Lapun said the corporate hockey initiative is something that the federation has been talking about for quite some time and having it come about will be beneficial for the sport especially in terms of promoting hockey 5s.
“It is an Olympic Committee requirement that we must promote this format of the game because it is played in all big events including the Olympics,” Lapun said.
