THE Papua New Guinea Hockey Federation is calling for teams to take part in the national hockey championships from June 7-9 in Madang.

Federation president, Kaluwin Potuan yesterday reminded all affiliated centres to register their interest quickly as there were only six weeks before the championships.

Teams eligible for the championship are Lae, Port Moresby, Goroka, Madang Rural, Manus, East New Britain and Buka.

The rural Gabensis, in the Markham, will be the guest team during the championships.

Kaluwin said there would be technical meeting on Thursday at the Madang Lodge conference room, and on Friday, there would be a one-day workshop conducted by Oceania development manager, Gill Gemming.

The workshop is open to all affiliated associations.

Potuan said all associations should contact his secretary, Thomas Kahai on 325 9932 at the PNG Sports Foundation to register their interest.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea will take part in the Oceania Cup to be held at Stratford, in New Zealand from Oct 28 to Nov 3 alongside New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu.

Kaluwin said players and officials selected would be levied K3,000 to be paid by the end of July.

He said players must have a current passport with more than six months before its expiry date.

He said obtaining a passport was players’ responsibility and not the federation’s.

The federation will hold its AGM during the national championships.

The main agenda is the election of president, vice-president and secretary. Any centres wishing to submit nominations should fax it to 325 7466.

Kaluwin said he was impressed Lae was the first association to furnish their nominees for the three positions.
