Hold on to our values

Letters

THIS is in relation to the ongoing survey by the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission to declare Papua New Guinea a Christian country under the constitution.
I support the survey and the idea to amend our laws, if need be, to acknowledge the principles we believe in.
In a world of rapid advancement in technology, it may be confusing when it comes determining what one believes in.
The very people that helped us differentiate right from wrong are now confusing us.
We were once in caves when they found us and told us: “Primitives! You are naked, here, cover yourselves with these”.
Those people are now saying: “It’s your right, you can do whatever you want.”
Having these influences is detrimental to the standard of beliefs our parents have thought us.
Missionaries came and Christianity was introduced with the virtues of morality.
We believed those virtues and upheld them dearly.
We accepted the God of the Christians and followed His ways.
Now that those principles are threatened by the unwavering influences of the secular world, it is time we make our stance clear to the world.
But it would be better if we declare the God of the Christians as the God of Papua New Guinea rather than declaring a religion.
If one can understand the principal-agent relationship, he/she will understand the point.
It’s better to serve the principal (God) rather than the agent (religion).
