Home-based learning to be extended

SINGAPORE: The home-based learning (HBL) period for all primary and special education (Sped) schools will be extended to Oct 7 as an “added precaution”, the ministry of health said on Friday.
The extension would allow students to stay home for the rest of the week.
Children’s day, which falls on Oct 8, has been scheduled as a school holiday for primary schools.
The announcement came as Singapore reported 1,504 new Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Thursday, the highest since the pandemic began early last year.
The ministry of education had said on Sep 18 that HBL would be implemented for all primary and Sped schools from today to next Wednesday to better protect younger children who were not yet medically eligible for vaccination.
There was no change to the arrangement for primary six students, who would go on a study break from Sept 25 to Sept 29 prior to the primary school leaving examinations.
The written papers for the primary school leaving examinations will commence on Thursday and end next Wednesday.
Private education institutions should also implement HBL for all students aged 12 years and below from today to Oct 10, although pre-school services in private education institutions may remain open. – CNA
