PNG has a growing problem with street children as family units fall apart, according to Life PNG Care, a home that provides love and opportunity to such children.
Director Collin Pake said that during a funeral service in Port Moresby for Wanpis John, who died under the care of Life PNG Care.
Pake said it was sad to see many street children in PNG suffering silently and dying unnoticed.
“Helping and accommodating orphans and children with broken families roaming on the streets of Port Moresby is a big fight,” he said.
“Upon the death of Wanpis, I urge all parents and other genuine people concerned that life is all about reaching for someone and for a child to grow, he/she needs nothing but love and care.”
Pake said Wanpis was a victim of no love and care in his family and he became a street kid who got infected with tuberculosis and had been living with the disease for 15 years.
He was born in May 16, 1999 into a Chimbu family. He had three sisters.
Wanpis was left homeless when his parents were separated after a family violence in Port Moresby and he became a street kid based at Port Moresby Jackson’s Airport.
