EAST New Britain (ENB) police has warned youths in the Sinivit local level government (LLG), Pomio, to stop making and consuming homebrew and marijuana.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali made the call on Monday at Sikut Block during a reconciliation ceremony between Butam Floodway and Upper Sigute communities.
Chief Insp Tabali cautioned youths at Butam Floodway and its neighbouring zones in Upper Sigute or Floodway ward 16 to refrain from any involvement in marijuana and homebrew.
He said police received a lot of reports marijuana cultivation and consumption in the ward which is one of the largest of Sinivit LLG’s 18 wards.
Chief Insp Tabali commended the decision reached by disputing parties to reconcile.
“This is a true Melanesian way and will ensure peace is restored to their communities,” he said.
He also acknowledged the quick action by members of the Kokopo police response unit and Mobile Squad 17.
