Hondina: PNG rugby league expecting response from Australia

THE SP Hunters are scheduled to leave on Jan 31 for Australia where they will be based at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast for the 2021 Intrust Super Cup season.
Acting Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League chief executive Stanley Hondina said there were still many moving parts to the relocation, however, “they are comfortable with the progress.”
He said they were expecting a response from Queensland’s health department by tomorrow regarding their quarantine plan and the charter for their flight to Brisbane.
Hondina said their quarantine plan was pending approval due the three-day lockdown in Brisbane over the coronavirus variant from United Kingdom.
Yesterday was the last day of the lockdown so the sport’s national rugby league governing body is optimistic of a response by tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Hunters coach Matthew Church said there was no issue with the players over the relocation.
“We do not want to go down there (Brisbane) and use the relocation or being away from home as an excuse for poor performances,” he said.
