FORMER PNG Kumul captain Stanley Hondina, who resigned from representative football, has been appointed Southern Highlands coordinator for the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup this season.
The appointment was announced by chief executive officer Timothy Lepa during the Ipatas Cup national coordinators meeting in Lae over the weekend.
Hondina, who is one of the pioneer captains in the competition, led the Mendi Menjals to victory in 1998.
His appointment came after the former coordinator and Kumuls prop Cedrick Kengi was released for studies this year.
The announcement was made after the national coordinators welcomed the appointment, saying Hondina had vast experience in the competition and would bring Southern Highlands to another level.
Lepa said Hondina would be assisted by the music sensation Augustine Emil and the incumbent SBS Muruks captain Joseph Omai and former coordinator Peter Alkend.
Lepa said Omai would take the lead in assisting Hondina for teams participating in the Hela region while Alkend would assist the competition in Mendi.
