Honesty is a quality that is sadly lacking

I SUPPORT the comment by “Stakeholder 2011” of Lae (The National, June 28).
A few days ago, a similar allegation was made in this daily about a contractor working on classroom and ablution block at Markham Road Primary School.
Two years ago, a similar contract was awarded to a private company to build a double classroom at Lae Secondary School which drained the school budget.
Some years back, when you drove over Bumbu bridge overlooking the Bumbu Primary School, you would see remains of a building that did not follow the plan.
There are many similar cases in Lae and Morobe province.
In fact, this scenario is evident in other provinces too.
The writer also called on the provincial education board and provincial administration to probe mishandling by school boards and principals.
It is common that all schools boards of governing council members operate under oath and provincial education administration members are also on the boards of schools.
In such cases, there should be greater vigilance and accountability of school funds.
Who then is the right authority to investigate allegations of misuse and awarding of contracts to cronies in educational institutions?
Aren’t our children supposed to learn in an environment where honesty prevails?
The only option is to learn good moral ethics as taught  in Christian schools with good discipline and the Bible as the guide.
