Hope to turn youth away from crime

THIS Independence anniversary, Northern is taking a different approach to its celebrations by focusing on their youth.
“We have a high number of incidents relating to homebrew or steam which had led to young people fighting and killing,” Ijivitari MP Richard Masere said.
“We have talked with churches and asked them to set up a committee that will drive this event forward.”
Masere said celebrations would start with the crusade on the Thursday (Sept 14) and continue throughout the Independence weekend.
He said they invited gospel artists P2UIF, Voice in the Wind and Higher Vision to play in a concert.
“We believe that the event will stir a lot of young people away from those problems and concentrate more on putting God first,” he said.
Masere said they wanted to use the opportunity for the church to minister to the communities and hopefully, change their lives and make Popondetta town a better place to live in.
“This year, our main focus is to bring God back into our lives. If we set our priorities right by putting God first, everything else will fall into place,” he said
